I started as a van and bus driver. Due to my good English knowledge and my polite character I soon became a Driver/Guide.
What does a typical day look like for you?
The typical day is making contact and arranging with clients or driving them around.
Have you got a certain style of guiding, or do you just run with it on the day?
My style changes according to clients needs.
Driving around with happy customers and letting them know the beauties of my country.
What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had on a tour or trip?
When a group of tourists that i was giving them a tour invited me to their table for lunch and we had a great time eating and singing.
Every job has its ups and downs. Are there any aspects of your job that you don’t like or aren’t that keen on?
I don’t enjoy when I have people unkind and without manners, but this is also part of the job so I accept it with kindness and professionalism.
To be kind and ready to adjust the tour according to the type of people you have. The experienced guide makes his customers feel safe, enjoy the tour, get lots of interesting information during it, and feel free to ask everything they want during the trip
A good guide always knows how to make his clients trust him, feel safe and lucky that he is there with them. As a local that’s my strong advantage and also with my 15 years experience as a professional driver helps me avoid the traps.
And finally, have you got any tips for people who are interested in booking a guide like yourself, but aren’t too sure what to look for?
I believe the best tip is to look for serious companies, with friendly local persons with experience on tours as guides/drivers and keep in mind that with good mood and a polite behavior the guide will return to them the best of his efforts to make them have a memorable experience.
