If you’re ever planning a road trip through the Western United States, you should probably hit up filmmaker Francois Menes for Advice. The guy behind the video titled “Los Angeles to Las Vegas to San Francisco” travelled with a bus more than 3,000 miles through Los Angeles, Joshua Tree Park, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite, and San Fran. Whew, we’re tired just thinking about it!
What we love about this video is how Menes has captured the diversity of the landscapes he travels through, and often with very simple images. He captures the busy, industrial streets of Los Angeles before moving on to wildlife (adorable chipmunks!) and landscapes in the national parks, and so viewers are treated to many delightful and contrasting images in just a short, two-minute video. It’s sure to spark some inspiration for a road trip of your very own – California especially should be on your list.
Along the way, be sure to take the time to explore your surroundings. Meeting a local guide in San Francisco will introduce you to this quirky, artsy city from an insider’s perspective, for example. You can get out on foot, sample lots of great food, and learn a little history. If you’re into pop culture and the movie scene, hiring a guide in Los Angeles is a MUST-do for catching up on celebrity gossip and sightings. But hey, if you’d rather soak up perfect views while driving through the countryside, we can’t blame you one bit. We highly recommend Joshua Tree Park, but maybe you’ll want to read up on the California desert beforehand.
