When we first met hiking and tour guide Gary Scott
at the Vancouver Outdoor Adventure Show, we were impressed by his confidence, laid-back demeanour and his excellent story-telling skills
. But when he said he did a lot of guiding in Slovenia, we responded with a, “Where?” So he told us about this tiny European country tucked between Italy
with a coastline that rests on the Adriatic Sea. He went on to say there’s fantastic hiking there and that it’s one of the most beautiful places he had ever been to. (Which is impressive considering he’s guided trips all over the world including the USA
and various places around Europe.
Later we did a search and came across one sitethat showcased photos of Slovenia and we were blown away! We just had to share some of them here because, for a place that not everyone has heard of, it definitely astounds with its beauty and charm. Slovenia is only about 20,000 square kilometres (about the size of New Jersey) but it sure does pack in a lot of charm for such a small country. There are about 2 million people there and Gary tells us they are all wonderful and welcoming. So the next time you’re considering a trip to Florence, Paris, Athens or Rome, consider making a detour to Slovenia – Europe’s best kept secret.
