Guide Bio

I am an adventure guide. I have a passion for sharing the culture, history and beauty of Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley in an energetic, friendly, fun and spiritual manner. I am the owner of this company and take special care to make sure every customer has an amazing experience in Peru. I speak fluent Quechua, Spanish and English.

I started working as a porter on the Inca Trail at age 16. I then worked as a chef on the trail while at the same time attending the University of San Antonio in Cusco. I studied for a four-year degree program to become a certified guide, completing course work in tourism, history, archaeology, flora, fauna, medicine, psychology and English. I have been working as a guide for the past seven years and have led over 500 trips to Machu Picchu.

During this time, I also was a production assistant on the movie, Mi Chacra.

I am a native Quechua speaker who was born on a farm in the Sacred Valley and grew up with seven brothers and sisters. My mom Andrea never attended school but worked very hard tending her farm and selling and bartering corn, guinea pigs, peaches and eggs in order to support her family. She strongly believed in the importance of educating her children, however, it was very expensive to buy uniforms and school supplies. Luckily, she had inherited two bulls from her mom and every year she would sell one of her bulls to raise money for me and my siblings to go to school. She would then trade the other bull in for two young bulls, which would grow during the course of the year and be ready to sell when school started the next year. This process was repeated every year until all of the children finished school. I am forever grateful for the hard work of my mom and because of my childhood, I am strongly committed to supporting children and families in the mountain villages of the Sacred Valley through social projects and by working with locally owned farms and businesses.

I was travelling with my wife and three teenage children and Valentin was our guide for 4 days. We have done lots of travelling and from experience we have found that you always get the best out of an area if you get a local guide. We have no hesitation in recommending you to book a trip with Valentin. He is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable that we enjoyed every minute with him. He is genuine and caring , even organising a surprise birthday cake for my wife which he carried all the way up to the Sungate, Machu Picchu. All we can say is, book a trip with him if you want to get the real Peru experience.

I have been to Peru on numerous occasions and have toured with many different companies but this was by far the best tour and guide EVER! I was picked up on time in a clean air conditioned car at my hotel–we did a day tour of the Sacred Valley and visited the Salt Mines and Moray and along the way stopped in Pillaray at a school that Pachamama Journeys has sponsored. We took school supplies and visited with the school which was an incredible experience. What I loved the most though was the visit to the local market–this was a non-touristic market in Urubamba. Valentin gave us a tour of the market, we tasted local fruits and saw how the locals shop and live. We then went to his family farm in the Sacred Valley which was beautiful with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. It was interesting to see and feed the guinea pigs and have a picnic lunch here. After that we went to Ollantaytambo–Valentin is an incredible guide. His is funny, intelligent and passionate about Peruvian history and culture. One member of the group was quite slow and he was incredibly patient and kind with her when we were climbing the steep stairs at the archaeolgical site. Finally, we had a tour of Machu Picchu. Even though I had been there previously, this tour was the best because in addition to the standard tour around the site, we hiked to the Inca bridge which was a secret entrance to Machu Picchu. This was a beautiful site and there were far fewer tourists here than at the rest of Machu Picchu. You should look no further than this tour company for personalized, well organized, service with one of a kind itineraries and amazing tour guides.

For many years I have dreamt about visiting Peru and especially Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo. I was, however, concerned about my ability to climb the stairs to the top ollantaytambo, one of the incredible world historic treasures. And here comes Valentin. With his kind smile, he helped me climb to the top and enjoy the incredible views of this unbelievable and unique place.

We continued our lovely journey to the dream of my life, the incredible Machu Picchu. Again Valentin, with his friendly smile, offered me his kind assistance and helped me conquer the height, the narrow paths and thus enjoy the breath taking views of this miraculous place. Every time we came to particular and unque place, which was almost everywhere, after he explained to others the historical and architectural aspects, he came to me and made sure that I did not miss a word.

Valentin is an excellent, knowledgeable, patient and caring guide whose English is perfect. I would highly recommend him to everybody who wants to get to know and experience the treasures of Peru
