Siem Reap, Cambodia
Private Tour, Sightseeing
Syden was born in Siem Reap during the Khmer Rouge genocide. Known as ‘buffalo boy’ when he was younger, he was abducted and forced to join the Khmer Rouge at the age of 14 when his home village was turned into a battlefield. After this was over, he proceeded to sell buffalo for 10 years, while learning about being a cultural and historical tour guide. He got involved in tourism in Cambodia in 1999 as a sightseeing guide, and has been striving to share his country with interested foreigners ever since.
Syden realizes that Cambodia is a poor country, and his dream is to use his profession to help those in need. There are many orphans and hungry people, landmine victims, and other people in need in his country – Syden uses 10% of the proceeds from all tour packages to help these people. Specifically, he wishes to help the hungry kids in rural areas and orphanages, and to help improve the quality of education available for them. Syden wishes to continue his education in a University one day, and to continue helping all those who are suffering and in need.
