Steven Bundy has been providing guided photography tours, which include camera and image instruction in northern New Mexico since 2008. He’ll show you famous sites as well as special sites known only to locals. His goal is to provide casual, easy going photo tours which showcase the unique beauty of the area; as well as any camera and image instruction needed to provide participants with everything they need to return home with beautiful images and wonderful memories of their visit to New Mexico.
Photographer Steven Bundy attempts to blend his 36-year background in civil engineering and its associated “Left-Brain” analytical thinking with his 14 years of Fine Art Photography experience and its “Right-Brain” creativity into all of his photographic images. His civil engineering background has influenced his sense of composition as he finds his eye naturally drawn to the geometric designs that exist in nature and the manmade forms all around us.
His goal is to capture and preserve the vast landscapes, crumbling buildings, rusting forgotten cars and evidence of diverse cultures that he finds along the way – giving them new recognition and preserving them as they erode – before they melt back into the earth. Reminiscent of Ansel Adams, Steven’s black and white images catch the essence of his subject matter conveying an intriguing visual encouraging the viewer’s mind toward a compelling story. Filtered through his unique eye this photographer’s work is fresh but harkens back to the golden age of photography.
Originally a film photographer, digital photography now allows him to preserve and present to others the images that form within his mind’s eye, instantly. Digital capture meets his personal photographic equipment needs with Adobe Photoshop functioning perfectly as a 21st century darkroom. In the last few years equipment and technology advances have made it so that his pigment on paper images can possess the same clarity, depth, contrast and longevity of some of the renowned photographers of the past. With their influences and examples Steve strives to follow in their footsteps in the hopes of meeting their high standards. His most important influences are: Ansel Adams, Paul Caponigro, Dorothea Lange, Paul Strand, Robert Frank, and Maynard Dixon.
When people view his images it is Steve’s hope that they see beyond his vision and experience their own feelings and emotions. Hopefully though his eyes they will gain a new perspective and see their world in a new and expanded way. Steve’s belief is that the goal of all art forms is to expand ones point of view and deepen the viewer’s understanding and enjoyment of their everyday world.
Steven currently offers photography workshops and tours out of his Taos New Mexico studio. He was a past partner and instructor for Eloquent Light Photography Workshops out of Santa Fe. Stevens’ photographic work is represented by Panterra Gallery in Bisbee, Arizona and Ordover Gallery in San Diego, California. His works have been exhibited nationally with numerous images purchased for private collections.
