Guide Bio

Samir Abbass, Egyptologist and Licensed Tourist Guide from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, Member of WFTGA “World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations” I take groups of tourists all over Egypt, especially these places enabling me to introduce the ancient and contemporary history and culture of Egypt. Learning about the history and different cultures and customs will lead to a better understanding of the international conflicts. For the same reason I joined two training programs offered by Bridges Foundation–aiming to bridge people from different cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds and opening communication channels to narrow the gap of understanding between them.

As seen on tripadvisor.com “Amazing Guide and Experience” . Reviewed October 30, 2013 . Samir is a genuinely thoughtful and a fantastic guide. We also had a good time discussing Egyptian politics and his experiences during the revolution. It was also a pleasure meeting Samir’s wife and having her take us around the market. You don’t need to look any further for a guide in Egypt. Everything was thoughtful and flawlessly planned and organized.

As seen on tripadvisor.com . “Wonderful time in Egypt with Samir” Reviewed December 31, 2013 . At the end of November 2013, I had the pleasure of having Samir give me a tour of Egyptian culture and history in Cairo. His knowledge of Egypt added a depth to the tour that was vital to its understanding. Despite all the news of political unrest, I never felt unsafe and Samir did everything to insure that I was safe. (Not that it was necessary, as I did not feel unsafe walking around on my own, which I did.) The Egyptian people were delighted to have me and other tourists in their country. One of the best things about touring with Samir and his crew was how efficient and accommodating it was. Not being familiar with Egypt, there is no way I would have been able to do all that I did without him and his crew. They were always on time ready for you and on more than one occasion I was able to reevaluate the itinerary to my liking, adding some great additions at his recommendation based on what kind of things I wanted to see. Bottom line: Much of the hesitation to go to Egypt is grounded in the political situation and the exaggerated media, but I would have no hesitation going back to Egypt with Samir as a trusted and experienced guide thanks to his preparation and dedication to his tours and the country of Egypt.

As seen on tripadvisor.com . “Real Egypt – perfect guide for a perfect day” Reviewed January 10, 2014 . We recently had a 12 hour layover in Cairo as part of a bigger trip to Africa, and were looking for a reliable guide to maximize the short visit and ensure that we were able to see the Giza pyramids. We very luckily read some reviews on TripAdvisor and contacted Samir, who responded to our request nearly immediately and quickly devised a plan that met our needs. I really never thought that I would have occasion to be in Cairo and especially to see the pyramids – this was such a magical day and the perfect way to kick off our special vacation. Samir’s team was perfect, we wasted no time at all – they whisked us out of the airport, grabbing visa’s along the way, and got us on the road in no time. Despite horrible Cairo traffic, and bad weather (cold and rain in Cairo?) we were soon to Giza and enjoying Samir’s recounting of Egyptian history and the people who built these great structures. Due to the political problems in the country, we were able to enjoy the site in near privacy – only school kids and local visitors were there. Despite this, we never felt unsafe – and always felt secure with Samir. In the evening, we moved on to El Moez St and visited a mosque and the shopping area before having a wonderful dinner in a local restaurant. We met and talked to some friends of Samir’s and got a real flavor for the culture of Cairo. Samir was also very open about the situation in Cairo and it was a pleasure to speak with him about the current events – not something you get from American television. I could not imagine having such a perfect day with anyone other than Samir – we were so lucky to find him! Thank you Tripadvisor!

As seen on tripadvisor.com . “Absolutely and wonderfully Impressed” Reviewed January 30, 2014 . We live in Cairo and have done many things on our own, but after touring around Cairo and Luxor with Samir, we will always contact Samir to take us and our visitors around. He is very knowledgeable of the places we visited and he kept our young children entertained, even on an 8 hr tour! With Real Egypt, you really get The Real Egypt. Amazing experiences and memories have been made between touring the pyramids without people bothering us, or a private day-long felucca (sailboat) tour in Luxor or even eating lunch homemade by a family on a farm in a mud brick oven! It was absolutely perfect. The drivers were Very kind and the Samir and his assistant in Luxor made our Holiday perfect! His rates are perfect for the amount of personal attention and knowledge you will receive.

As seen on tripadvisor.com “A day I will never forget!” . Reviewed April 5, 2014 . I booked a flight with an 18 hour layover in Cairo and in doing my research on what to do, stumbled upon Real Egypt Tours with its impressive number of excellent reviews. Because I didn’t know how much I could see (or importantly, how safe things would be) I sent an email with various questions. Samir responded straight away having put together a personalised day trip which was as ambitious as I had hoped whilst also giving me all the information regarding security. Suddenly I couldn’t wait to go – who hasn’t had a childhood dream of going to Egypt? Real Egypt certainly didn’t disappoint – from helping through customs to letting me nap on the journey between stops as well as taking wonderful photos (a tourist with only a phone camera…) throughout the day, the whole team made me feel welcome and at ease immediately. Samir is an expert in all things Egypt – he recounts history from ancient Egypt and in the next breath makes insightful comparisons with the cultural context of today. We spoke to the many people Samir knows around the city that we met during the day, about their lives, their work and of course, their politics and I was often asked what we hear about Cairo and Egypt from the news we get outside of the country. Meeting these people as well as the ones from Real Egypt will remain my favorite part of the trip. But I will finish with another special memory from the day – as tour guides are not allowed to enter the Great Pyramid (to keep the numbers down) and because we arrived just before lunch time closure, I ended up walking inside the Great Pyramid all alone! Just me and 4500 years of history. I cannot describe how wonderful and awe-inspiring that was. I’m very happy and grateful to Samir and Real Egypt for this and all the other unforgettable memories! Alexandria, the desert and the Nile will be my next (Real) Egypt trip…

As seen on tripadvisor.com . “What an interesting person!” Reviewed June 23, 2014 . We travel a lot, and hire professional guides, for knowledge, enthusiasm, spoken English, and keeping the vendors at bay. We had one day in Cairo, and Samir is our new world champ! He’s a professional guide with an advanced degree in Egyptology, who steered us beyond the high points to the significant ones. What an interesting person! At Giza, in the Museum, and in the street, we talked politics, we talked religion, we agreed, we debated, it was great. My college student daughter, who just took her first course in archaeology, held up her end of the conversation too. What an education!

As seen on tripadvisor.com . “The Best Guide” Reviewed July 21, 2014 . My fourth trip to Egypt was based in Cairo and I was fortunate to have Samir Abbass recommended to me. He took me to the pyramids of Dahshur, the citadel, mosques and heart of the old city, to restaurants not usually frequented by tourists, and also to Alexandria. Samir proved to be a highly educated, knowledgeable and articulate guide so that I genuinely felt I was seeing the “Real Egypt”. As usual the media have exaggerated the dangers involved in travelling to Egypt. At no time did I feel unsafe or threatened and believe that with a bit of common sense you would have to be very unlucky to get caught up in any violent demonstrations.

As seen on tripadvisor.com ( Add us to the ever-growing list of people who think Samir is fantastic!” Reviewed August 6, 2014 This was our first trip to Cairo. Samir picked us up at the appointed time and gave us a tour that felt more like a conversation with an old friend, rather than a tour. He is funny, engaging, patient and knowledgeable, even keeping our teenage daughters entertained. He even went above and beyond what we would expect from any tour guide, making a side-trip to a restaurant to pick up some food scraps for my dog-loving daughter to later feed to dogs that live near one of the pyramids we visited. Samir kept the ubiquitous “entrepreneurs” at each site at bay, shooing them away when they approached us to buy some trinket or another, and we felt totally safe and at ease (except maybe when trying to cross the street…jeez, they drive like maniacs in Cairo…haha!) We highly recommend Samir to any and all who want a safe, fun and unique tour while in Cairo.

As seen on tripadvisor.com “Perfect tour for a stop-over in Cairo” Samir was very thoughtful from the moment we made the reservations to the time he dropped us off. Based on our interests, he customized a day tour for our 12 hour stop over in Cairo on our way to South Africa. There was a guide waiting for us as we got off the plane to help us purchase a visa, get through customs and find our car. We hit the main attraction, the Giza Pyramids and rode camels, but we also saw areas of Cairo and learned about the different perspectives in Cairo: Muslim Brotherhood, Military and Christians. We visited the Coptic Cave Church, Old Cairo, Markets — we saw a lot for the little time we were there. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a stop over in Cairo. We felt safe the entire time we were there.
