Guide Bio

Roen had the arduous task of growing up on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii. She did a lot of the traditional Hawaiian activities like going to the beach, surfing and studying hula dance. She also tapped into her audacious side with more adventurous activities like open sea spear fishing.

She decided to leave the island to attend school and picked Seattle (Seattle University specifically) to study Accounting and was on the school dance team (mostly hip-hop and no hula). Something about Seattle got into her DNA and she gave up the warm trade winds and beautiful sunny beaches of Hawaii for the milder and not so sunny climate of Seattle. Roen makes it a point to return home to Hawaii each year officially to see her family, but, off-the-record, it’s really to eat her mom’s traditional home cooking, have a lunch plate, some poi and poke. So ono (Hawaiian for delicious)! She loves sharing her love of food and her new home of Seattle with visitors and locals alike!

As seen on: TripAdvisor “It was Fun” 4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013 Felicia and Roan did a wonderful job of guiding us throught the Pioneer Square area of Seattle. Being a native of Seattle but not having visited the area for quite some some, the tour was like visiting it for the first time. The food and vendors were excellent. The only drawback was taking the tour on a weekend when some of the vendors were closed. We would recommend this tour for any visitors or natives wanting to aquaint themshelves with this area and get some good food. Visited October 2013 cojama Seattle, Washington

As seen on: TripAdvisor “Fantastic Tour!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013 As a native to the area, I was surprised that every stop on this tour was new to me! I loved hearing the story of the founding of each establishment. Stories always make me feel more connected to my food and drink. Felicia and Roan have built wonderful connections in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, so we felt like VIPs as were greeted with enthusiasm at every stop. I would do it again! Tiffany M Bellevue

As seen on: TripAdvisor “Taste of Seattle” 4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014 The guides were very friendly and knowledgable about the establishments we visited as well as the local history. I learned a lot about the beginning days in Seattle’s history and enjoyed some varied local cuisine. The experience was worth the cost and was a fun way to spend the afternoon. As seen on: TripAdvisor “Interesting tour, even for a resident” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014 I had a Groupon for this tour and probably would have paid full price if I had known about it beforehand Our guides Roen and Felicia were helpful and enthusiastic We took the Pioneer sq food tour and I learned some things I had not known previously We tried a variety of foods and had tastings at a wine bar and saki bar If anything could have been changed I wish that Salumi had been open the day we took the tour;their cured meats were wonderful but it would have been nice to meet the owner and experience the products in the store As it was we stopped by a little park with a waterfall(which I didn’t know existed) and enjoyed the salami on a nice ,non rainy Saturday Visited April 2014 judik Redmond, Washington

As seen on: TripAdvisor “Great food that we wouldn’t have otherwise found!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014 via mobile The guide was great and knowledgeable about the area. She managed to get us food from shops that were closed that day, and found us all seating even in busy restaurants in the middle of the day. They were accommodating to our vegetarian food needs as well. Very impressive overall. Visited April 2014 dtomcampbell 1 review

As seen on: TripAdvisor “Fabulous Fun !!!!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014 Roen and Felicia make the tour around Pioneer Square such fun! Almost 4 hours, 8 stops, and some of the best food and drink there is. Who knew that cucumber Dry Soda was so fabulous, that the best German food could be found, that chocolate with indescribable spices would give you a heady experience or that “Good” Sake was right here in Seattle! We would recommend this tour to anyone and can’t wait to introduce our visiting family to the best in Seattle!!! Visited May 2014 LWO_11 Forks, Washington

As seen on: TripAdvisor “Find hidden gems on this tour in Pioneer Square!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014 After hearing about this tour from friends, I decided to indulge in the historical and culinary delights of Pioneer Square during a free weekend. I am a Seattle native and figured I knew what to expect from the food scene. Actually, it was all new to me! Roen was a delightful tour guide, leading us from place to place and providing the right amount of commentary to keep the tour interesting. The tastings were prepared or reserved in advance, which made the tour move along nicely. I particularly liked learning the biographies of the local restaurant/business owners.
