Get To Know Iran Guide Mitra Pourrezaee

“The love of Iran and humanity have always been my motivations to be a guide” says Mitra Pourrezaee.
How did you get into your field of expertise?

Practice makes perfect…besides the love of Tourism which was the first motivation for me to become a tour guide, just like others I needed practice to become a good tour guide. So while considering the tourists needs and desires, I always tried to put everything I learned into practice whenever I had a chance…and through years of guiding I reached to this stage of skill.

How did you make the transition to becoming a tour guide?

It was not that easy…First I just was an English teacher…After a while I just learned that the difference between a teacher and a tour guide was that a teacher talks about topics which are already set as the lesson of the day, but a tour guide should be spontaneous and resourceful…that was the key to change from a teacher into a tour guide…and it did happen

What does a typical day look like for you?

I am normally an early riser. My breakfast is actually my biggest meal which is normally very pleasant while it is served on a tour or with my tourists. I should have something to do…a tour to take or do some digital marketing or the least I should plan for my future projects.

Having lunch while seeing into the family problems and caring about their needs is something I do in the afternoon.

The evening is the time to relax and there should nothing be left for the following day…after all I love my concern-free deep sleep.

But it doesn’t always go this way.

Have you got a certain style of guiding, or do you just run with it on the day?

Actually running with it on the day is my certain style of guiding. Guiding is not a job for me any more – it is the way I live. I am not adding anything to it except that every day I am just making new friends. So I might need to repeat something daily –  but new friends always need to be treated differently even in the same situations – so that’s why it is always fun to repeat the same thing.

What is the best part of your job?

Making new friends and visiting people from different countries is the best reward of the job.

All people from all around the world apparently look different, but when you get to know them you just realize that we are all the same and that is we are all human-beings.

Every job has its ups and downs. Are there any aspects of your job that you don’t like or aren’t that keen on?

Yes, tour guiding is a seasonal job. I miss my travelers when I don’t see them for sometime.

As an experienced guide yourself, can you explain to our readers what the benefits of hiring a guide are?

When you are in an unknown place especially when you are limited by time and money, you don’t have enough time to find the right places to see and right things to do by trial and error, so if you hire a good tour guide you will probably get the most of your time and money. Also something can’t be conceived just by watching and reading from books. Here a good tour guide who specially speaks a common language quite well is a treasure. Don’t you think so?

Tell us something about your area that only a guide would know.

On Qeshm island there are some places which can’t get to without a tour guide. and each attraction has something special which is not written in any books and can be heard just from the mouth of the guide.

In Shiraz I am not actually giving a tour but talking about me myself…you ask why?!!! because it is my hometown and I was born in an alley in the ancient texture of the city, so who can tell you about the place better than one who has lived there?!!!!

In your view, what makes a good tour guide?

Looking at the tourists as human beings and guests rather than the source of income is the key to being a good tour guide. To be a tour guide you should feel your travelers… you should be a host rather than a guide…and you should give them the feeling that you appreciate them to be your guest rather than your client.

And finally, have you got any tips for people who are interested in booking a guide like yourself, but aren’t too sure what to look for?

Yes…never book anything you are not sure about, and to make sure PLEASE feel free to ask as many questions as you need.

The love of Iran and humanity have always been my motivations to be a guide; through which I could express my love for my country and also visit with other people from other countries to have a better insight to the deep meaning of humanity. Every day I am learning more and more about my country and also people all around the world. I love to share my experiences with you.

I have been a tour guide since 1990 when I was only 22 years old. I know my hometown, Shiraz, quite well. I can take you through the ancient texture of the city (where I was actually born) and tell you a lot of stories about my childhood and the people.

Right now I am living On Qeshm Island and I can lead you through its mesmerizing nature, the land of wonders, and also the unbelievably beautiful Hormuz Island. I have nothing to say here since its beauty can’t be expressed by words, I believed you should come and see it yourself.

I have also traveled to many cities in Iran and have a lot to tell you about them. You are all invited to join me and enjoy this beautiful county…Everlasting Iran.

I discovered the highights of Qeshm island with Mitra, and it has definitely been one of my greats moments of my stay in Iran. We saw salt caves, fishermen harbour, canyons, traditional shipyards, doplhins… Mitra is really passionate and has a wide knowledge of the history and culture of the island. Without forgetting that she is very open minded (so many topics of discussion…) and speaks a perfect English.

    Hi,
I stayed at Mitra’s place in October 2016.
Mitra is a great host in Shiraz. She loves to have personal conversations and tell you all about Iran’s customs. She will take you places you’d never go by yourself or in an organized tour. Her house is beautiful and she is so generous.
I would defo recommend her to other travellers.
