Guide Bio

At age 14, I took my first clients for hire to fish for Brown Trout in Northern Michigan, and started guiding in Iliamna, Alaska in 1987. In 1989 I found Ron Hyde’s, “Alaska River Safaris,” on the Goodnews River through a good fishing buddy and spent my summers there, while working winters in Antarctica where I supported some 168 different science projects. After 7 years of guiding on the Goodnews River, I purchased Ron’s Lodge in December of 1996, and renamed it the “Goodnews River Lodge.” In 1998, I moved to the Florida Keys and applied my fishing skills to the Florida flats.

Today, I split my time between Alaska and the Keys, doing what I love best – being a guide in both places, while being a lodge owner who understands the importance of protecting our wilderness for future generations.

Goodnews River Lodge

The Goodnews River Lodge is the ONLY full service fishing lodge located 450 miles from Anchorage on the remote Goodnews River in Southwest Alaska, just outside the Togiak National Wildlife Reserve. In business for over 30 years, we offer outstanding week long fishing trips for all 5 species of Pacific Salmon, resident leopard Rainbow Trout and Grayling, and sea run Dolly Varden.

We are a fixed lodge right on the main fork of the River, and access over 400 miles of river, creeks, braids and streams via a fleet of jet boats with only 2 anglers to a guide. Experience wilderness Alaska in comfort and without crowds.
