Guide Bio
I am Michele De Gregorio, an independent historian with a special interest in people’s history and urban studies, freelance writer, tour guide, avid cyclist and full-time community activist involved in local consumer cooperative networks and in an oral history project of Rome. I was born and raised in Rome. I discovered my city by cycling and cycling, criss-crossing all its neighborhoods in all directions, working out different itineraries. Riding a bike through the “eternal city” is like traveling back in time where traces of every period can be found in its roads, squares and hidden street corners.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in American history at University of Siena, a Ph.D in labor history at University of Teramo and a fullbright scolarship in migration history at University of Minneapolis. Currently I live in Rome, Testaccio, with my partner Emilia and my daughter Alice.
