Guide Bio

Melika (Meli) Seval is an historian, photographer, writer, and professional tour guide operator. A native of Izmir, Turkey, she graduated from the Aegean University Faculty of Public Relations and also holds a degree from the Ankara University Faculty of Political Science in Ankara. She did her masters in CA. Melika is fluent in seven languages, including English, Turkish, French, Uygur, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Uzbek, and Turkmen. She is well versed on Turkish history, art and customs, and on the Silk Road.

Meli has appeared numerous times on American television, and has also had many articles published in U.S. and Turkish newspapers. In 1999, together with famed tour guide editor Rick Steves, she co-sponsored an American TV program on Eastern Turkey, which she first appeared on the A&E Network, and later on other cable outlets. She also has had numerous CDs/DVDs produced on topics ranging from Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and “The Traditional Fabric Arts.”
