Guide Bio

Matt is truly at home in BC’s Southwest. Growing up in North Vancouver, completing a business degree at UVIC , and calling Whistler home, have all combined to make him a natural adventure tour guide.

Matt owns and operates Arbutus Routes based in Whistler, BC, Canada and specializes in the Southwest of BC for both biking and hiking adventures. Arbutus Routes is a full-service bike shop in the Blackcomb Village in Whistler with a fleet of 50+ rental bikes from Specialized and Yeti.

“Our difference in Whistler is that we can accommodate all your bike needs including bike servicing, high-performance rentals, parts and apparel and a range of packages with trips and tours from 1/2 day to a week long.” Also, being only 2 hours from Vancouver, Whistler is the perfect place to spend the day when you need to escape the city to enjoy the great outdoors!

As seen on: Trip Advisor “Fantastic coaching” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2014 NEW We did many days coaching with the wonderful McKenzie this summer and I can highly recommend her. She is equally good with kids and adults and pushes you to try things that you would not believe yourself capable of. She is very knowledgeable but also fun to be with. After 4 exhausting days of treks, zip lines, ATV and white water rafting we thought we’d wrap it up with an afternoon of mountain biking but our bodies thought otherwise…. The guys in the shop got it running as smoothly as was when it was brand new. I had a race a couple weeks later (Test of Metal) and it went off without a hitch. Both times they were friendly, knowledgeable about the park and happy to help. We brought our own pedals and wanted the brakes switched around – they were happy to oblige. Leonie, who helped us, was awesome! Incredibly helpful, passionate about riding and went out of her way to ensure we had… More Was this review helpful?Yes1 dav-bt yorkshire 1 review “Best bike shop…..simple as that! ” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2014 Couldn’t ask for more from a bike shop. Mechanics know everything there is to know about bikes and the shop is stocked with pretty much everything you need.
