Kim Gundler is the co-owner and tour guide of Beaufort Kayak Tours. Together with David, she started the business in 2002. A native to South Carolina, after attaining an advanced degree in Science Education, Kim began working in schools, museums, and for a variety of environmental organisations. This experience made her realize that guiding tours was her dream, and she moved to Beaufort County to pursue it.
David was raised in Beaufort County and spent much of his childhood playing in South Carolina’s beautiful outdoors. He attended the University of South Carolina to study natural history and has been married to Kim for over 20 years. They love kayaking, doing road and mountain biking, hiking, and going on outdoor adventures.
Kim and David only offer one tour per day because they don’t believe in rushing their clients. You are guaranteed to have their full attention for the duration of your tour. They are scientists as well as Master Naturalists and would love to answer all of your natural history questions on your kayak tour. Some of Beaufort’s most interesting history can only be observed from the water – see historic homes, tabby ruins, old forts, rice trunks, and more on our History-based kayak tours.
