Guide Bio
Ken comes from a long list of FIS (Federation Internationale de Ski) racing Barretts in New Hampshire. After years in the insurance industry, Ken moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. He discovered a powder skiing paradise located behind Idaho’s largest ski area, Schweitzer Mountain Resort. With his prowess in skiing powder and his natural enthusiasm to have a great time skiing, Ken opened shop. He, and principal partner Chip Kamin, created Selkirk Powder, a hybrid snowcat skiing company. For more than 10 years, Ken has created thousands of lasting impressions for skiers.
Snowcat skiing is unique as riding machines are used to get to the designated peak tops instead of ski lifts and helicopters. This form of skiing allows one to glide over the natural terrain with long descents and steep slopes. By having a guide and machines made for such a terrain, skiers can relax and enjoy the thrill of the undiscovered snow.
We have three cats and 10 snowmobiles we use to transport people over the 200,000 acres of leased land. We are a member of the National Ski Patrol’s professional division. All of our guides are certified in the fields of medical, mechanical, mapping and avalanche procedures.
Ken himself is an avid skier, snowboarder, snowmobiler, cyclist, kayaker and hiker.
