In 1990, John Romano decided that he wanted to start his own brewery business, so he founded Better Bitters Brew-On-Premise in 1991. He then decided to make better beer, so he started building Nickel Brook Micro Brewery, named after his children Nicholas and Brooke.
For the last 6 years, he has received several awards in Ontario, Canada as well as the U.S. for his beers. In 2005, John received the Outstanding Community Service award from the Burlington Rotary clubs. Better Bitters was given the Mayor’s Communnity Service award in 2007, and Nickel Brook Beers won Burlington Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence award for Business Retail/Wholesale in 2013. His support for his community is widely recognise, and he was made an honorary member of the Kinette club of Stoney Creek.
