Guide Bio
Joe is our local guide in the North and has lived in the Golan for almost 40 years coming from Perth Australia where he was active in Habonim and the Scouts. After working in the various kibbutz branches, like bananas, chicken, the accounts department and Sales at the Plastics factory “FLIC”, Joe attained his BA in Israel Studies at the Kinneret College(Bar Ilan) and went on to work with youth at risk running their outdoor program for 5 years.
Joe became a tour guide five years ago after years of telling the wonderful story of Israel to family and friends. Joe served his army service after coming to Israel at age 21 and has lived on his kibbutz in the southern Golan since. He is married with 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Joe’s interests are Jewish history, Israeli history, archaeology, popular astronomy, battles of the Bible and Australian WWI battles in Israel.
My husband and I recently had the pleasure of touring Israel from Haifa to Jerusalem in 8 days with Joe Sofair, we’re admitting upfront we’re Australians. Joe was excellent, our days were long and customized to suit our interests – we were not on a Christian pilgrimage, though we were still interested in the Christian aspect. We experienced more than we expected and engaged in some differing and open point discussions with Joe that we had not anticipated. Israel is a wonderful and complex country, and though we are still perplexed by it, we recommend you visit it with Joe…you won’t be disappointed, and make sure you see the Bell Caves and the Dividing Wall.
