As seen on Trip Advisor: “Jhony Knows Best” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2014 I honestly didn’t know what to expect because my dad was the one who insisted we take a guided tour of Lima (I am more of the self-guided tour type), but Jhony and Lima City Tours was a terrific host to a city I might not have otherwise got the chance to see as I did here. Jhony is super knowledgeable, has a great feel for the city, and did a great job showing us around areas we otherwise might not have seen, like the seafood market and the cool bars and restaurants. More importantly, Jhony makes for an entertaining host, not just because his English is so good but because he’s a traveler himself and a great conversationalist. I am not normally the type to write reviews on these things but Jhony and Lima City Tours deserve all the praise they can get. – By Chris C.

As seen on Trip Advisor: “Amazing friendly guide taking you to the places tourists don’t get to see” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2014 I chose Jhony based on his reviews on Trip Advisor. It was an excellent choice. He’s friendly & fluent in English & although he is perfectly capable to taking you to the established sites in Lima & imparting all you need to know, I found his real strength is taking you to the places the tourists don’t go to, to give you a real no-holds-barred experience. Brilliant restaurant in Chinatown, the places where the Peruvians buy their designer clothes, & rides on the local buses. If you have the time & inclination he can take you out to Ancon, the little resort & fishing community – which I loved. He is totally professional, can arrange all your airport transfers – cheaper than the hotels – & frankly he’s great fun with an incredible spirit. Really, thanks to tripadvisor, I now have a friend in Peru, not just a top notch guide. Gracias, amigo! – By hesawyer.

Each tour we felt was more like being shown around by a friend who loved the city and wanted to share the buzz and interest with us. The historic centre walk was really helpful for getting our bearings and learning about the history of Lima city. It was great to relax and know that we were going in the right direction, that timing for the changing of the guard was right etc. The night time tour was a last minute decision because by then our feet were a bit sore from walking earlier. But we’re glad we did, again because we could relax with Johny taking us the fastest route to see the light show on time, even navigating on and off the Metro. As seen on Trip Advisor: “Feels like going out with a friend!!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014 I used Jhony’s help to arrange my Lima and Cusco tour in June 2014 and I would say I’m very happy with the experience. Just to highlight what I think about Jhony and his crews: 1. Flexible — daytime, night time, just a few hours, full day, he can come up with something. 2. Friendly — it’s far from going with a formal tour where the tour guide just keep talking and fills you with information, it’s more like going out with a friend. He’s pretty casual and relax which works very well for me. 3. Informative — well… I’m not really into long explanation about every single thing I saw while he’s showing around, but he seems to know what he’s talking about. What I meant informative here is he can suggests you things like where to go for foods, which spots to take photos, put it simply, a truly local who knows the fun stuffs in the neighbourhood. So in short, I would recommend Jhony for other travelers. – By Cingdy.

“The best tour guide in Lima!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014 We had a fantastic time with Jhony on our visit to Lima! We initially thought that we would have two free days, so for the first day we booked the Pachacamac Tour, and for the second day we booked the City Tour with a visit to Casa de Aliaga. From the beginning, we were impressed that Jhony and the driver met us early at 7 am at the airport. Our tour at Pachacamac was at 9 am, so we had some time to grab breakfast at the nearby town. Jhony immersed us into our first dash of Peruvian cuisine :) Jhony was quiet knowledgeable in the history of the area, and it was a pleasure to learn the history about Lima culture from him. During this tour, Jhony mentioned that he also did a Pisco Pub Crawl. We were convinced as soon as we heard Pub Crawl and arranged for Jhony to pick us up in the evening at our hotel and bring us to the city center. Jhony came with another driver and took us out on a night to remember! We went to one bar where we tasted awesome piscos, a second bar where we made our own piscos with various mixers and then a dance club. If we had more sleep after such a hectic day, we would have had more energy to dance :) On the second day, Jhony again picked us up at our hotel and took us on the city tour with all of the main attractions of the city. We were really enthralled that Lima is such a diverse city with so much to do, unlike some of the reviews that we have read about it. We specifically wanted to see Casa de Aliaga, which is a private tour that is only available with a tour guide. Jhony helped us to arrange this tour prior to our trip, and we loved every minute of the house when we went inside. It is the oldest continuously inhabited house in the Western Hemisphere! We were flying to Cusco for a few days, but because we had 9 hours in Lima on our way back to New York, we asked Jhony to create a fun itinerary for us. The next week, when we returned to Lima, Jhony and his driver met us at the airport. We walked around Miraflores and grabbed some lunch in the area. After that, Jhony took us to the Larco Museum, the hip neighborhood of Barranco and the beautiful fountains at the Magic Circuit of the Water. We ended our night riding the small train cars at the park, feeling like we were kids again! We always enjoy private tours, and the tours that we took with Jhony were truly special and memorable. There is so much to see in Peru, and we will definitely return for more memories with Lima City Tours!!! – By Alex S.

He responded to my email and with minutes we had made plans to meet the next morning at the airport. Of course, my flight was delayed. Jhony was flexible and was waiting with a my name on a sign as I arrived. First time in Lima, first time with my name on a sign! Everything went well. Johny helped me with cab fares, which can be substantial in Lima, and he even stored my luggage for free! This was fantastic because the airport charged an arm and a leg for day storage. Even better, moving through the city with no bags was so relaxing. We visited all the big sites and he tailored made the tour to my interests which were the art and art histories of Lima and Peru. The day was jam packed full of fun but my favorite moment was our ceviche lunch in the mercado. We grabbed a couple stools at the bar and enjoyed a wonderfully fresh 3 course seafood meal prepared right in front of us. (~12 soles a person) I have yet to find ceviche that good, let alone that cheap, back home. My spanish is pretty weak, so I was little overwhelmed by the speed of the big city. It was a huge relief to have Jhony there to facilitate as we moved through the city. Gringo prices are no fun so it also having someone to help with negotiations. I can’t imagine doing half of what we accomplished that day on my own. Jhony was a wonderfully personal guide who’s knowledge of the city is vast. Since we were 5 people in our group, we travelled in a Hyundai minivan which was comfortable for 5 people plus Jhony and driver. Traffic in Lima is massive and the port of Callao is about 45min away from the historical center of Lima, so we spend lots of time inside the van. But of course we also had plenty of time for walking around the oldtown, visiting the catacombs of the San Francisco church, the changing of the guards in front of the Government palace, Miraflores and all the places that were part of our tour or we wanted to see. As seen on Trip Advisor: “Great tour of Lima” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2014 Our last day in Lima after a few days in Cusco after the Sacred Valley and Macchu Piccu and I wanted a longer personal tour as we did not fly home until the evening and we had to check out of our hotel at mid day. I found Lima City Tours on TA and called Jhonny who very quickly put an itinerary together for a 6 hour tour of the city. He picked us up at mid day and we had agreed that he would put all of our cases in the car ready to drop us at Lima airport later in the evening. George his driver stayed with the car at all times so no problem with security. He took us to a nice fish restaurant for lunch and we saw some fantastic sites. His knowledge was superb as was his English. At all times he was a great host and I would strongly recommend him. It was our 40th wedding anniversary on the day and he ensured our day was special. Thank you Jhony. – By 1468VX.

As seen on Trip Advisor: “Great Experience!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014 I feel absolultely terrible taking this long to write a review. We were recommended by our guest house to Lima City Tours. We did the Lima City Tour and had an amazing time. It was just my partner and I and our guide was wonderful. We got to see so much of the city that you dont get to see in larger groups. He had great relationships with local merchants, allowing us an inside look to many places. He escorted us back to the Mira Flores district where we were staying and even had lunch with us before departing. We loved it so much we planned for a guided night out on the town, Pisco Tour. We had so much fun!! We were late because we got off the autobus on the wrong stop but he was there waiting patiently for us. We watched drinks be made, and even got to make our own. Again another great tour. We left for a while to hike the Incan Trail and visit other places in Peru, but on our arrival back we got together for drinks and snacks at our condo. Great end to a great trip! Definitely made a great friend in Peru! – By abankssullivan.

Since our home flight leaves at almost midnight, we asked Jhonny to cover as many places as he possibly could. So we went to a museum close to the airport, then to San Francisco church, ate lunch, on to Barranco and then to see the light show and back to the airport. Our driver was excellent, that’s why we were able to cover a lot of places. I will have to go back again to see more of Lima. – By Venust.

I did a day tour of Lima Center with 2 others. I was picked up at my hotel and was driven down town and had a wonderful walking tour with Jhony our guide for a very reasonable price. Jhony was an excellent guide, he obviously knows the city very well and not only did he show us the main attractions he also took us to places that you don’t see on other tours – like his picks for good bars, cafes, and little known shops where you can find churros dipped in chocolate. Besides being incredibly informative, he was also incredibly friendly, speaking excellent english to the two others in my group and speaking with me in Spanish because I am trying to better my Spanish. He was more than happy to take pictures of us as well. He had many recommendations for night life and cultural activities and was definitely one of the best guides I had in my 6 months traveling about South America. Plus Lima City Tours is privately owned and run there is no agency to deal with or to overcharge you. You get private attention and are not hustled about in a large group. Plus Jhony is a local so he knows so much and he loves his city and I ended up loving Lima as well after this tour. – By chimone.
