Guide Bio

Jake Gunson is co-owner and operator of Gunson Guiding & Outfitting in Liard River, British Columbia. He is a licensed Guide-Outfitter, and has been guiding horseback and/or hunting trips in Manitoba, Saskatchewan Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.

Jake did manage to quit guiding for a few years, trained (mostly) as a Biologist and ‘got a real job’ as an Environmental Scientist / Engineer. But in the end it was a failed attempt to integrate into the real world. Within 5 years Jake and his partner Cecilia were back in the mountains as the owner/operators of a ~2000 square mile guide territory, with their young family.

Gunson Guiding & Outfitting.

Gunson Guiding & Outfitting is a small, family run company, that operates in a Guide Territory of ~2000 Square miles, on the British Columbia side of the BC-Yukon Border. The area includes the 'north slopes' of the Rocky Mountains, the Liard River & the 'Liard Plateau'. The Liard Plateau is an untouched mess of rivers, lakes, mountains and canyons - covered with burned over forests, swamps, and... essentially no way to get into it - not even a horse trail. Perfect moose habitat. Our Guide Territory has virtually no development - forestry, oil & gas development, or 'tourist' facilities / infrastructure - it is untouched wilderness. The parts of the area that we can get to are accessible by float plane, horseback, foot, or canoe. Most of it we just cant get to. We have 'rough' cabins on a handful of lakes, one horse trail into the southern portion of our area (North Slope of Rockies), and endless wilderness. If you would like to experience some of the last 'true wilderness' on the planet, give us a call.
