Guide Bio

While Jaime is of German stock, he was born in Chile and is fluent in several languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese, and Hebrew.

For several years he lived, worked and traveled extensively in the Middle East and Europe. After returning to his native Chile, Jamie joined the travel business and worked as a tour leader for several travel agencies. The tours offered by these agencies were usually for large groups and had tough schedules with little or no flexibility.

Jaime wished to improve on this experience and pass on his love of his own country to others. He believed that his university education and his extensive experience in the industry would enable him to create and run his own agency that would be small and flexible and would consequently provide a better value to the touring public.

He now offers customized tours to the independent traveler as well as to vacationers on cruise ships arriving at the port of Puerto Montt. His service enables the discerning traveler to make the most of a visit, regardless of the limited amount of time available or special interests to be pursued. “So, let me take care of the details while you enjoy the beauty of southern Chile. I will do it for you.”

South America Cruise on the Celebrity Infinity
    2/27/11 to 3/13/11

Punta Arenas was one of three tours we had booked with Patagonia Shore Excursions http://www.patagoniashorex.com. When trying to set up tours in the South American ports, I had been frustrated by some tour operators being very slow to respond to emails or not responding at all. Jamie, the owner of Patagonia Shore Excursions, had responded very quickly to all of my emails, even while he was stuck in Europe by the Iceland volcano ash. I was able to Skype with him before we booked, which was a great way to get to know a tour operator.

Jaime,Greetings to you and Ercilia. ,It has taken me a while, but I wanted to get back to you with photographs a description of our day with you, and a testimonial.
Here is the description of the day written for Trip Advisor https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294298 (with more reports on Fodor’s and Cruise Critics).
After breakfast, we headed out for our last port day. The weather forecast for today was 71F and Sunny, and what a day we had! We started off with some cloud cover, but by the time we got to Lake Llanquihue, the sun was shining and the gorgeous vista across the lake to the Osorno Volcano was visible. Our Cruise Critic Roll Call group of nine had been met at the pier by Jaime Liebrecht and his driver, Ercilia with a new and comfortable van. En route to Osorno, we made a stop at a little farm, where we walked among some emus and llamas and took lots of pictures as they posed for us. We drove first to the Volcano, bypassing the large tour buses headed for the Petrohue Falls. Once we reached the ski lift, the seven people in our group who were going to Zip Line down the Volcano face headed up on the lift, while the two of us who chose to stay below, relaxed on the terrace and enjoyed the fabulous views in every direction. In addition to Osorno, there are two other volcanoes visible in the area and the lake, and the snow-capped volcanoes and the lush landscape of the valley below make for a truly gorgeous sight.
After about an hour, we climbed up to the last platform to photograph the zip liners as they cruised in. They all had a great time, including Jaime. Next we drove to the Petrohue Falls, which is another fabulous site. You walk out to where the waters from the Volcano surge over some rocks and then continue on with rapids in several directions. On a sunny day like ours, the blue water against the forested sides of the bottom of the volcano is beautiful and we took many photographs.
Then it was on to Puerto Varas for lunch. Since we were all very hungry by this time, this was much anticipated and we were all pleased with Jaime’s pick, a little restaurant called El Patio de Mi Casa. We ordered off the menu with Jaime providing translations and ate Salmon a la Plancha (served with a sauce spaetzle, Tortellini Stuffed with Chicken for our son (very good pasta drenched in a delicious cheese sauce), and a Crab Au Gratin dish (Pastel de Jaiba), which was very delicious. For the three of us, with one Crab dish, one Salmon dish, the Tortellini, a beer, Mineral Water, two glasses of White Wine (also terrific), and a Pisco Sour (our son’s first, but definitely not his last!) the total was US $43.
We took a few minutes to shop in Puerto Varas before heading back to the ship. Puerto Varas is a charming town with German architecture, spectacular views of the lake and the volcano, and many lovely shops. Although we didn’t venture in to check it out, there is also a casino. Our port day had been fabulous and when I look at the pictures taken amidst such gorgeous scenery on such a terrific day, I have no hesitation in saying it was the best day of many excellent days on this cruise.
I am happy to recommend Jaime. He is very knowledgeable, speaks fluent English (and other languages as well) and is a great guy. We all enjoyed our day with him very much.

Puerto Montt – We did the Mount Osorno Volcano Adventure with Jamie Liebrecht of Patagonia Shore Excursion. This included taking a chair lift up the volcano that had some of the most breath-taking views we experienced on the trip. Once up the mountaind we went zip-lining. Then we went to Petrohue Falls and ended up in the town of Puerto Varas for a wonderful lunch before returning to the ship. I HIGHLY recommend Jaime and Patagonia Shore Ex for this location. We took a few minutes to shop in Puerto Varas before heading back to the ship, where the line for tenders was extremely long and slow. Hot and tired, we were happy to get back on board, but too exhausted and too late to fix up for dinner. We just “went as we were” and still full from lunch, had a smaller than usual dinner. We ordered appetizers, soup, and dessert and skipped the entrees. I ate Curried Apple Soup, Salad Nicoise, and marvelous Flourless Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. They had a Mixed Grill on the Menu which looked good and an assortment of Seafood including a Lobster Tail with Fettucine, but there was no room for us to eat all that food.

Good Morning Jaime, We were more than happy to give a good review of our day with you in Puerto Montt area to the Newlands. We hope they book with you and experience a great day as we did. Our photos of that day are some of the best on our trip. Feel free to give our names to anyone for recommendation. The Newlands contacted us by email and we replied that way but also giving our phone and street address. They live only three blocks away! We offered to meet with them or talk on phone, etc. but guess our glowing review of you via email was enough!! Glad to be of any assistance Best Wishes, Lenore and Evan Lancaster PS: None of my friends believe that you and I saw puffs of smoke from that volcano! I know we did.

Both our excursions with PatagoniaShorex were superb! They were the best port days we had.

Our guide in Puerto Montt, Claudio, was very personable and had a good plan in mind that balanced our desire to see Orsono Volcano with some threatening weather. My daughters put his adventure skills to the test with a strenuous hike up the ski hill in fierce winds and appreciated his agreeable attitude. He wasn’t daunted by the weather and we traipsed through Petrohue Falls in the rain before enjoying a fantastic lunch in Puerto Varas.

We discovered on our cruise that being with fun, friendly and knowledgeable guides made all the difference! The day with Claudio was top notch.

In Punta Arenas we were fortunate to meet Danae. She was a good adventurer as well and joined us for kayaking on the Strait of Magellan. She and the folks running the kayaking concession were really fun and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. Afterwards we had a very nice meal and she took us to the main square. We met really nice people through Danae that made this day a highlight of our cruise. You couldn’t do better than to have her for a guide.

Jaime made all the arrangement for these 2 tours. He and I corresponded by email and Skype. He got back to me immediately with answers to all my questions. The service was excellent!

From the first inquiry Jamie was very quick to respond. The quick response continued as we worked through the details of private tours in Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt, Valpariso, and Santiago. Each stop went according to plan. Guides were prompt, friendly, flexible, and knowledgeable. Each tour day went as planned and as a bonus we learned a lot about the country and culture. I highly recommend Jamie (Patagonia Shorex)and it was great working with one person for all four tours in Chile. Thank you Jamie and your network of professional guides and drivers.

I can only give Jaime and his wonderful folks the highest of recommendations. He does an outstanding job in responding quickly to e-mails, providing useful tour information and pricing tours fairly. We did a private tour using Patagonia Shorex (Jaime)who provided a driver/guide for touring the Puerto Montt Chilean Lake District on a recent cruise ship port call.
Jaime met us at the dock, provided a knowledgeable, English-speaking guide for the day and met a again at the end of the tour to make sure everything went well. Needless to say, I found this to be an example of the outstanding service and professionalism that Jaime provides. Whenever I’m in the Patagonia area again I will surely be contacting Patagonia Shorex for tours

    Dear Jaime,
I want to thank you again for a wonderful tour and just for being such a great person. Your timely reply to all my emails made planning easy and efficient. Your cheerfulness and willingness to show us everything possible in a short time made this a truly memorable experience. After spending only a couple of hours with you we felt like we know you for years. And a dinner you took us too!!! Oh my God! It was the best meal we had during a month of traveling.
We feel blessed to get to know you. We still talk about the day we spent with you and smile every time we remember you.

I hope out paths will cross again.

We appreciate all the efforts you have made to fulfill all our requests from the first moment we started our e-mail corresponding plus our long Skype talks, until the end of our trip.
Thanks to the program you planned, we were exposed not only to the unique and spectacular nature of Patagonia, but also to the residents and the culinary of this special region. Everything was done at a high level of service, as you promised us, and if any problem came up on our way, it was immediately fixed with a ready smile and in your unique pleasant manner (with a special Hebrew accent.).
We will happy that we met you and we will highly recommend you to our friends.

We wish you all the best

All the tours organized worked out perfectly – with excellent guides and drivers. All the guides were in port at the right time and were easy to find. I would definitely use Patagoniashorex.com again and highly recommended for all tours needs in South America

We were very happy with the tours we took on our recent cruise with Celebrity.

To begin with, Jaime, I was very happy with your quick responses to our questions before we left on the cruise. We thought the prices for these tours was reasonable considering the service we received.

We were on the Celebrity Infinity which left Valparaiso, Chile on January 20, 2013. For every tour the guides were as close to the ship as they could get and we found each other immediately. All the guides were very knowledgable, very nice and very willing to talk about aspects of the culture, the natural settings we were in, the plants and animals and the language. The drivers were all courteous, helpful and drove well.

Our tours with Patagoniashorex were at Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas, Puerto Madryn and Punta del Esta. In the other ports we used ship tours. What a difference. The ship tours were crowded and we learned much less. Those guides were also funny and nice but it’s hard to get such a personal experience with a large group.

We all felt we learned so much more on your tours and enjoyed the port more than we might have. Thank you for recommending we go to Peninsula Valdez at Puerto Madryn. That may be my favorite tour of all. We didn’t just see the penguins, sea lions and elephant seals but many local birds and animals that live in the national park.

We all agree that taking the private tours gave us a much more personal experience and made the trip to the exotic lands of Patagonia tremendously more enjoyable. Being able to tailor our tours so that we were at locations when the large busses we elsewhere was also a happy advantage. I would highly recommend your company and if we are ever in South America again we will be in touch.

Jamie you and your team could not have done any more for us during our 5 day tour to Machu Pichu. From planning to delivery everything ran like clockwork. Your local guides were informative, friendly and their language skills far exceeded any expectations we had.
You and your guides were patient as we climbed and made our way to all the highlights from Cuzco to Machu Pichu and ensured we all made the trip of a lifetime safely and at our pace, especially as our group ranged in age from Mid 50′s to 70 years.
Your pick up and delivery from port to port made us feel safe and secure at all times. We couldn’t have added any more value to this trip, than you and your local guides delivered.
As far as I am concerned you are the only tour guide I would recommend in South America as you assisted myself and friends in other ports of call during our 49 day circumnavigation of South America on our recent cruise.
I would be more than happy for you to post this on your website and I would be more than happy to provide any references direct if you are asked for them.
Once again Thank you, even tho it just doesn’t seem enough.

“4 day tour to Machu Picchu for Sea Princess passengers”

Because of the high recommendations given to Jaime of PatagoniaShorex Tours on Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic, I contacted him to organise a 4 day deviation tour for 18 passengers who were travelling on the Sea Princess World Cruise, to visit Cusco, Lima, Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Aquas Calientes and Machu Picchu. He was waiting for us as we disembarked in Ecuador and safely delivered us back to the ship in Lima, From the planning stage to delivery I cannot praise him highly enough. (Louis, the local guide he used was also exceptional, and very knowledgeable of the Inca and Peruvian history).
He was patient with those who needed extra help, and it just got better and better as we made our way to the highlight of the trip, Machu Picchu.
Most meals were included and he arranged excellent accommodation, especially The El Mapi hotel in Aguas Calientes. It was a two minute walk to catch the bus for the 20 minute ride up the mountain to Machu Picchu, and we were able to be on the site before it became very crowded later in the morning.
A tour with Jaime in this part of the world is an ‘absolute must’ for anyone who has the opportunity to do it, it is important to deal with someone who knows the area and is able to structure a tour to include as much as possible in the time you have, and do it for a price and standard you require. Thankyou Jaime, Diane.

We had a wonderful trip along the Carretarra Austral with Jamie Lebrecht from Patagonia Shorex. The highway is a, mainly, gravel road that runs from the south of Patagonia to Puerto Montt built in the 1970′s. The road passes hanging glaciers, smoking volcanoes and crystal clear lakes, Jamie arranged a sea trip to the San Raphael sea glacier as well, an awesome site.

Jamie is a knowledgeable and pleasant guide who tailor the trip to meet our interests. Also an enthusiastic 4WD driver a great attribute on the gravel roads. It was a magical trip

We joined 4 tours arranged by Jaime whilst on our South American cruise from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso (Montevideo, Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia, Puerto Montt). Through Cruise Critic, we were able to arrange groups for the tours (max 10 people)which reduced the overall price pp. Each tour was well organised and all local guides were exceptional in their efforts to ensure we had the best local knowledge and experience of their towns and region. Jaime was keen to receive feedback on our experiences and genuinely cared that we were always happy with what we were seeing.

We were a group of 4 and had a great day with Jamie and our driver who turned out to be Jamie’s neighbor. We were able to beat most of the crowd to the Falls after a scenic overlook of the town, spent some time with the llamas, and had a wonderful seafood lunch at the Patio De Mi Casa.
Jamie was flexible with our itinerary which really catered to what we wanted to do.Â
    A fabulous tour….highly recommended

    “Dream trip, dream tour guide”

Jamie was wonderful, he made sure everything went like clockwork and he has a team of friendly and extremely knowledgeable people who enjoy passing on their love of the particular area we are visiting. When we were transported between airports, hotels and sights the vehicles were large and very clean. Loved the 5 days we spent with him while in Machu Pichu. I think his tours are the best thought out tour we have ever been on. Again THANK YOU!!!

I can’t begin to tell you how pleased we were with the arrangements you put in place for our group of 14. in Puerto Montt, in Puerto Chacabuco, in Ushuaia, in Puerto Madryn, in Montevideo, and Buenos Aires were all the guides very professional, knowledgeable, personable and so very accommodating. Jay was amazing! Then when we met Denise in Chacabuco we were in love! Young and sweet and so enthusiastic in her new job as tour guide! We loved her! Luciano in Ushuaia was so educated and just a wealth of information for us! Your tours were certainly the highlights of our vacation.
We had a wonderful vacation, Jaime, and you did NOT disappoint! We were thrilled with the arrangements you made for us. Thank you again for EVERYTHING!! We will recommend PatagoniaShorex!
