I live, work and play on the sea cliffs, sea stacks and mountain crags of Ireland as a rock climbing and hillwalking guide. I was raised in this region of Dungloe and have more than 30 years of mountaineer experience. I have explored the mountains and coastline of County Donegal since 2007. I am a qualified mountain instructor and an approved provider of National Governing Body awards with Mountaineering Ireland and BOS. I am also a registered and insured Mountain Instructor with the Association of Mountain Instructors (AMI).
Before changing gears to be a guide, I was a marine engineer for 20 years. I worked in many levels on worldwide trading vessels, including nine years as chief engineer. This has strengthened my in-depth knowledge of the geography and features of the area. From this, I have also put together a collection of adventures and packages for those seeking a new level of outdoor adventure.
In addition to guiding visitors the remote mountain summits and hidden glens, I specialize in sea stack and sea cliff climbing. This unique and quite unusual activity involves walking across the great wilderness to the summits of 1000 ft sea cliffs.
On the side, I have wrote many articles for mainstream and climbing publications. I am also the author of the 2015 Donegal Rock Climbing Guidebook.
