Guide Bio

Cathy has kept family traditions alive & well throughout the years and loves extending her story telling to everyone who frequents Catalina Island. She grew up visiting Avalon and now lives here full time with her husband, Jack. Cathy is the ultimate hostess to her large, extended family every summer, which makes welcoming tour guests (aka new friends) to the island second nature. She cannot wait to show you around the city – just like visiting a long-time friend in their hometown.

As seen on Zerve: My friend and I had the best time on this tour. We did 4 things and this was by far the best. Walking around Avalon and learning the history, tasting some really great food – some that you would not know about unless you did the tour. Cathy was awesome! She shared so much personal history since she has grown up there and lives there. It was a very well organized, educational, and yummy tour. If you only have time to do one thing in Catalina – I recommend you take this tour. Excellent!!!! Visited November 2014.

As seen on Zerve: Each restaurant stop provided a different taste of Catalina. All food groups were represented along the way. Very enjoyable and feeling. Cathy being a long time resident of Avalon, provided an excellent historical review of Catalina Island and Avalon. Her overall enthusiasm for the local community and how much she enjoys her life on the island was a highlight of the tour. Visited September 2014.

As seen on Zerve: Our guide Cathy, a native, was a plethora of information about the islands history. She was very friendly and a lot of fun. It ran smoothly, but definitely on a schedule. The food samplings were excellent. Did not end the tour hungry by any means. We were a rowdy group of 14, there for my husbands 50th birthday celebration. That being the case, my only complaint was that for the $90 after tax etc. we anticipated more by way of alcoholic tastings to be included. All in all, it was a very nice time and I would highly recommend it:) Visited September 2014.

As seen on Zerve: Our tour group leader, Cathy, had grown up visiting Catalina every summer. She was enthusiastic and provided lots of interesting historical detail about the island and different areas. Go on this tour hungry as six restaurant “bites” were a lot more food than you think. The restaurants chosen were all unique with well chosen specialties. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this tour. Visited September 2014.

As seen on Zerve: This is a great way to learn about the island before you set off on your own. Our guide, Cathy, was a lifelong resident of Avalon. Having spent her summers there as a child and is now a permanent resident. She was a wealth of information! The restaurants were fantastic and the food awesome. We ended up going back to three of the six places in our short three-day stay on the island. We highly recommend this tour! Visited July 2014

As seen on Zerve: Cathy was great. She knew so much about the island and its history, but never made it boring or feel like the tour was lagging. The food was well spaced out and perfect portions to feel like an adequate taste, usually including a drink. It was obvious that the tour had good relations with all of the restaurants, which I find to be an important factor in rating any business. It was well organized and everything went smoothly. We all left happy and full! Visited June 2014.

As seen on Zerve: The tastes provided were delicious, and well thought out in order of presentation. Cathy was very knowledgeable about the island, giving a detailed tour as we walked around. The tour definitely helped us decide where to eat for the week, and the coupons provided saved quite a bit at the featured restaurants. Visited June 2014.

As seen on Zerve: My family visiting from the mid-west wanted something out of the ordinary and this hit the spot. We truly enjoyed the various food selections. Each was something most of us (5 adults) would not have normally chosen but each was very good. Excellent flavors and sample size. The time allotment of 3 hours seemed actually just right; time to listen, talk, and eat with sufficient time between restaurants to be ready for the next sample. The guide’s narration (Cathy) was informative and provided a brief history of Avalon and Catalina. We all felt this was the highlight of the trip to Catalina. Visited May 2014.

As seen on Zerve: Cathy was great. The food was amazing, even catered to my dairy allergy. Enter coupon code hotdeal and received a $20 gift certificate to Catalina coffee and cookie company (Cathy’s daughter’s business). Could be given a bit more time for eating. Loved the coupons for the restaurants we visited after. Visited May 2014.

As seen on Zerve: Lets just start that I was extremely hung over for this food tour and was not really in the mood for it. Cathy our tour guide was very accommodating, caring and knowledgeable. She always ensured that I was ok and if I needed anything else. She knew a lot about the island, the different locations and food that was being served. We really liked all the variety of food (of what I was able to eat), even though they weren’t huge portion, they were just the right amount! We were all stuffed by the end of the 3 hour tour. My boyfriend ate my portions at the first 2 locations.I highly recommend this, it was fun! Visited February 2014.

As seen on Zerve: This was my very first food tour. I was so enthralled with every aspect. Very recommended for first timers to the island as you will get a great introduction to some of the best Catalina has to offer. The food tastings provided were absolutely fabulous. Each one better then the one before. Great flavor complements, well planned and just so much fun. I was fearful I would be so full and that was not the case. It takes 3 hours to visit 6 locations. They are well spaced with walks and excerpts of history of this extraordinary island. Our tour guide Cathy was a gem. She had great passion about the island, the culture, the food and the enjoyment of each of us on the tour. What a fabulous experience. I will be back and do this again. Well done!!!! As seen on Zerve: We had such a wonderful time on the tour with Kathy and Michael (training). They were so thoughtful, knowledgeable and shared their personal experiences and stories. Loved the food and drinks at the restaurants as much as the history of the Island and family stories. I had never been before so this was a wonderful insight in to the area and people. Thanks so much! Visited May 2013

As seen on Zerve: We loved this tour! Cathy, the tour guide, was knowledgeable about everything because she’s a local and has been coming/living in Catalina since she was a girl. Also, because Catalina is so small, all of the restaurants she took us to, she had a connection to and could tell us the history of them (and even introduce the owners). It wasn’t just a food tour, it was an Avalon tour, with the tastes of the best food, from the perspective of a local. Visited March 2013

As seen on Zerve: My partner and I completely enjoyed our day on Catalina, and the highlight was the food tasting. Having never been to Catalina, I didn’t know what to expect, but the tour completely exceeded my expectations. Cathy, our tour guide, was friendly and quite knowledgeable, having lived on the island for many years. Beginning with the tasting of tomato curry soup at the first establishment to the ginger beer float (ginger beer + caramel gelato), everything was well done and well presented. Great memories on a great day. Enjoyed it immensely. Visited March 2013.

We had a fantastic tour with Cathy! Combine the whimsical feeling of being on Catalina Island, beautiful southern California weather, amazing food and a very likable tour guide and there you have a perfect afternoon. Cathy walked us from restaurant to restaurant while filling us in on the history of the island. We ate every kind of cuisine: Mexican, Chinese, American, and finished with a ginger beer float. (my favorite) Cathy is the kind of person you want to invite into your home for dinner and conversation over a nice glass of red. She had the most endearing stories about her times growing up on the island and her current “small town” stories that come along with living there. I’ve been to Catalina a few times, but never appreciated the food and history in the way that Cathy shared it. Five Stars from us! Thank you Cathy!!
