Guide Bio

I’m a 44 years old Romanian, based in Bucharest – Romania. As a sightseeing guide, I am passionate about history and meeting new people all the time. I`ve started tour guiding as a hobby in 2006 and then I just couldn’t stop travelling and sharing with other people the beauty of my country. I love to share the intriguing history of this country, the cultural environment and the specifics of our traditions.

I’m a self-employed licensed tour guide and agent for Romania, working with different incoming tour agencies and for my own customized tours as well. Most of our tours are cultural tours, designed to bring a new perspective over the mentality and the history of this part of Europe, which was closed to the foreigners for about half of century because of the communist oppression.

Feel free to ask me any question about a future travel to Romania. Let’s spend together an unforgettable vacation in these marvelous landscapes!

I would like to second all the comments of my cousin, Nancy. I have gone on two wonderful trips with Catalin through central, northern and western Romania. It is like traveling with a friend who not only takes care of all the logistical details but enhances the trip through his wide knowledge of the local history, culture, and current events. He makes great suggestions of what to see and do, and also has a real enthusiasm for exploration of new places. For example, one day I saw a World Heritage Site symbol on the map and asked what it was. He didn’t know, and said, “Do you want to find out?” So we drove through small villages up into the mountains and discovered an isolated little monastery in the deep forest — one of my most memorable travel experiences, ever.

My cousin and I were very fortunate to have Catalin as our personal guide for 9 days in Romania! My cousin had him as a guide in Bulgaria and part of Romania last year. She had a fantastic experience and thus requested him again!

Catalin was very flexible with our itinerary and was able to show us the town where our grandparents grew up. We happened to meet a woman who was the church caretaker. Catalin was able to converse with her in Romanian and then translate what transpired to me and my cousin!

The whole trip was amazing and the restaurants we stopped at were fabulous. All our accommodations were perfect.
We stayed at a lovely bed and breakfast on the Danube River and we could even see Serbia on the other side!
Catalin arranged for birthday cakes for my cousin and I as we celebrated our birthdays while in Romania!
I would highly recommend a trip to Romania with Catalin! He was always on time, very polite, patient and very knowledgeable about Romania’s past and current information.
It was the trip of a lifetime and I’m so glad we got a chance to appreciate the wonderful country of Romania with Catalin.

We couldn’t have asked for a better tour or a better guide for our fantastic visit to Romania. Catalin put together a great tour for us, taking us to see all of the places we wanted to see and also showing us many new things. He was very knowledgable, and we learned everything we ever needed to know about the history and culture of Romania. When Catalin didn’t know something, he would figure it out, rather than trying to make something up on the spot like many tour guides tend to do. One of the highlights of my trip was Catalin’s selection of restaurants, all of which were amazing. He really knows the best places. If you’re looking to have the best private tour of Romania/Bulgaria, you won’t find a guide better than Catalin. He is definitely the best around.

Touring Romania for 12 days was an adventure. We were blessed to have Catalin, our tour manager, who is knowledgeable. He was able to engage us in daily discussions ranging from politics, history, education, and religion to animals, and music.

From the wifi in the car that met our online needs to the varied sights, comfortable hotels, and excellent restaurants, we have found our Romanian experience a memorable and informative experience. We enjoyed the quiet respite at Viscri and the hospitality at Vadu Izei at Maramures. The visit to the Museum of Victims of Communism at Sighetu-Marmatiel and a chat with a family of gypsies gave insights into other facets of Romanian life.

Catalin is a problem-solver and actively seeks solutions. This tour was paced to suit our needs. It is evident that relationships matter to him and he knows and cares about the people on his circuit. We felt safe in his hands and have experienced Romania from the inside out. Whether it was hunting for communist-era medals and paraphernalia, or getting a lint-remover, Catalin saw to our needs.

I was very lucky to have Catalin as my tour Guide. We travelled for 8 days and I was very impressed with the knowledge that Catalin has concerning all the sited we visited. Catalin was very friendly and helped with all the required issues and did it gladly.
Catalin is also a very good driver and I felt very comfortable and safe when he was driving.
I certainly recommend Catalin and I’m sure that anyone travelling with him will be very happy. On my next trip to Romania I will certainly contact Catalin again.

We can’t thank Catalin enough for our wonderful guided tour through Romania. Catalin took us on a foodie/wine and Dracula tour which suited our interests perfectly. He speaks perfect English, and we were very well taken care of throughout our entire trip, even when our itinerary needed to be re-arranged due to a site closure. We have no hesitation whatsoever recommending Catalin, and we consider Romania one of our new favorite destinations in the world!

We had the great good fortune to have Catalin as our guide for a trip from Bucharest to the painted monasteries of Bucovina and back. We found him to be an extremely amiable and compatible companion, with a huge amount of knowledge about a great range of topics, and we felt we learnt a lot not only about the historical aspects but also about life in today’s Romania. He had planned an excellent itinerary, but made it clear that this could be adapted on the spot if we so wished, which happened on a couple of occasions. We are already planning another visit, so although we strongly recommend him as a guide, we don’t necessarily want him to be booked up 150% in advance or there will be no space for our next trip!
