Get to Know Italy Guide Carlo Arcucci

I grew up in Sorrento, a lovely town close by the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii and Herculaneum and Mt. Vesuvius. I grew up here and had the great opportunity of sharing my time with people from all over the world, so this definitely helped me to open my mind and I had the chance to learn different cultures.
Why did you become a guide?
Because I’m so proud of my country … I’m trying to let visitors see my country through the eyes of a local.
What types of tours do you specialize in?
I’m specialized in the Amalfi Coast Tour.

The most interesting part of my job is definitely the fact that I’ll meet so many people in my life … most of them come as a client and then turn very quickly into a friend. And having the passion of travelling myself it gives me the time in the winter to travel. I’ve managed many times to visit them in their home country, always a lovely time.
Do you have a certain style of guiding?
I always try to customize my tours following my clients’ needs and give them a lot of information but mixed with some funny stories. They are on holiday so I think that we should be informative but easy — leaving time to enjoy and relax on the visit.

Honestly in my job I think the most difficult part is to figure out very, very quickly (what) are their priorities and what they are really interested in, so I have to be a good psychologist and then a great driver/guide.
What in your opinion makes a good guide?
I think that a good guide is not a guy with a lot of knowledge, but he’s the guy who manages to share his knowledge with his clients, involving them in his tours and managing to keep them happy — and is not too boring giving only dates and number that the clients will forget in less than one hour.

My name is Carlo, I was born in lovely Sorrento in 1978 – that’s where I grew up and live today with my family. My home town is a really beautiful place, and being in contact with so many travelers from all over the world, I’ve met fantastic people with many different personalities – all have helped me in my life.
I’ve started working in the tourism industry when I was 21 years old, so it’s been 17 years now. I work with the same passion of many years ago because I’m very proud of my country. I love to give to my clients (who will become friends of mine) the opportunity of knowing the local history, to visit amazing places such as Pompei, Positano, the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, the stunning Capri Island and the Eternal City of Rome. I try to show those places through a local’s eyes… so they can see it from a different point of view.
I do provide transfers & tours by a very comfy Mercedes Van (max 6 passengers).
