Sight Fishing Trip
As a native of South Florida, I have been fishing the southeast coast for over 45 years. Growing up in the region, nights and weekends were spent pursuing any and all creatures swimming. I moved to the Florida Keys in 1982 to operate a 30-passenger dive boat and work as a N.A.U.I. certified Dive Master. Once I obtained my 50-ton Masters Captain license, I worked as a Bahamian charter captain. I operated an upscale yacht maintenance company at the Ocean Reef Club in North Key Largo. After intervals at the University of Florida, Florida Keys Community College and Florida International University, I decided to be a guide 25 years ago.
As a self-taught fly caster and imaginative fly tier, I have been featured in publications such as Saltwater Sportsman, South Florida Sport Fishing and Fly Fishing America. I even have a spot on the Saltwater Software’s Florida Fishing DVD. I have been honored to have shared a boat with the late Curt Gowdy Sr. of the American Sportsman, Flip Pallot of Walkers Cay Chronicles, Raz Reid of Sage Rods and Chico Fernandez.
Having published numerous articles on bonefish and tarpon, I write a weekly column for over 30 major fishing web sites and the local fishing guide, the “Weekly Fisherman”. I am also a field contributor for Water Way Magazine and Fly Fishing America. I have also been featured in a book entitled “Saltwater Fly Fishing from Maine to Texas”.
When I am not guiding, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love photography and kayaking, usually doing both at the same time! I also enjoy volunteering with the FWCC on the Red Tide Monitoring program. I work in conjunction with a Berkley University herpetologist and professor for the study of the Eastern Diamondback Terrapin Turtles. One of my favorite charities to work with is the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
