Guide Bio

Bronx native and NYC licensed Tour Guide, I enjoy sharing the history of The Bronx with our visitors and locals. One of my strengths is to share the historical perspectives of small businesses, educational houses and cultural Institutions. Promoting our Cultural and National Landmarks to locals and tourists. Providing history and visiting national landmarks of major NYC locations. Assisting tourist/visiting groups on tours, leading them to various places of cultural interest as well as historical importance. Arrange and transport visitors and locals to tour areas. Conduct planned activities and itineraries. Describe tour points of interest to group members, and respond to questions. Select safe travel routes and sites to be visited based on knowledge of specific areas. Translating for our Spanish speaking tourists. Monitor visitor’s activities to ensure compliance with establishment or tour regulations and safety practices. Arrange food tours for large groups, schools and private excursions. Marketing and promoting historical and cultural neighborhoods in The Bronx and El Barrio/East Harlem.

“As seen on : [TripAdvisor]” “Alexandra Maruri Bronx tour” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014 There were certain places in the Bronx I wanted myself and guests (there was a total of eight of us) to see. Alexandra Maruri suggested adding one more (the Dept. of Parks Exhibition center in Poe Park, to see a photo exhibition which turned out to be a highlight of our tour, and I wouldn’t have known about if not for Alexandra). I had asked for a four hour tour. It turned out to be almost six hours, and Alexandra did not charge extra for the difference. We toured four locations – the Melrose section of the Bronx, the Andrew Freedman home on Grand Concourse, the Poe Park exhibition center, and Arthur Avenue. Many of our friends, as well as myself and wife have seen Arthur Avenue many times, but never with the fascinating historical details as presented by Alexandra, and the personal meetings with people in the area who Alexandra knew. We ended the tour near Woodlawn Cemetery, which was not a tour spot, but Alexandra took the time to give us interesting details about the cemetery and its “inhabitants”. Alexandra can plan a tour, or will take her cue from you if you have preferences of places you want to visit. Adding both those options together provided a great tour for my group. She is a knowledgeable tour guide (and a really nice person) who knows that no question is a poor one, and deserves an answer; she told us to let her know where and when we wanted to stop and/or slow down for photos, and had the driver do so. The van itself was current, modern, well air conditioned, with a microphone used by Alexandra so we could all hear easily, and a driver who was skillful and polite – and who stays with the van while you’re in a walking phase, so you don’t have to worry about personal belongings if you want to leave them on the van (which we did). My overall comment is that if you want to see the Bronx in a new and positive light that will leave you wanting to take another tour, this is the one. Well worth the money! There were bathrooms in the venues we chose to stop in, and space on the van for belongings. We had no children with us.
