Kathmandu Adventure
Kathmandu is Nepal’s capital city and it’s a cacophony of sounds, a myriad of scents, and a hectic but alluring destination for the most daring travellers. If you want to escape the hubbub of traffic and people to get away from it all, the location is ideal. You can head out to Kathmandu Valley or Mount Everest, or anywhere else in between.
In the Kathmandu Valley, you’ll find the best panoramic views of the Himalayas from Chisapani and Nagarkot. But the valley is where you should definitely go if you love mountain biking – you’ll find some of the best-known hill stations on the Valley Rim. You’ll pass by beautiful monasteries, learn more about the valley culture, and visit the ancient city of Bhaktapur – home to the world’s largest statue. Trails are all mixed jeep track, single track, and country roads, thus requiring a certain level of fitness!
Another great Kathmandu adventure option is trekking and hiking in the Langtang Valley. You’ll learn all about the fascinating Sherpa culture here in the mountains as you visit traditional villages like Langtang village and Kyangjin Gompa. There are panoramic views of the mountains from Kyangjin Ri. Of course, it’s usually Mount Everest that is sought out by explorers. There are many ways to hike to the Mount Everest base camp, but giving yourself plenty of time to complete the journey is key. Altitude is killer! You can reach here via Gokyo Lake and Chola Pass, enjoying mesmerizing views of the Himalayas along the way.
Check out the Annapurna Himalaya ranges on a Panchase Village trek, located near Pokhara (the “lake city”). Trek to Makalu Base Camp, or try the Kanchenjunga trek.
