Forget the Eat, Pray, Love theme in Bali; Indonesia is really all about big adventure. If you’re the kind of person who likes island hopping, watersports, and other outdoorsy goodness, an Indonesia adventure is the thing for you. Owing to its dramatic landscape – including active volcanoes and over 17,000 islands – Indonesia is definitely a good place to get outdoors. And the people? Warm, welcoming, and diverse. There are over 300 languages spoken within the country, by the way. As you might have guessed, Indonesia isn’t your typical vacation destination.
Want to get extreme? You haven’t lived until you’ve tried whitewater rafting in Indonesia. Hit the class 3 to 4 rapids on the Telaga Waja River, even if you’re a beginner. Paddle away as you take in tropical forest and hanging trees before plunging headlong over a small waterfall. Yes, it happens. You can also raft in Bali, or in Ubud, down the Ayung river. Your guide may even treat you to some traditional food – you’ll probably work up an appetite! Do you prefer being on solid ground? Perhaps a downhill bicycle trip is more your speed. You can start in the Kintamani highlands with amazing views of Mount and Lake Batur, before making your way downwards. Highlights along the way may include visiting a coffee or cocoa plantation.
To see Batur Caldera a different way, try a guided hiking trip instead. There are many ways to enjoy your Indonesia adventure. Batur volcano is considered one of the most beautiful calderas in the world, and most routes are quite easy, even for beginner trekkers. You can start out at the Hulundanu Batur Temples on the north edge of Lake Batur before moving on to Bubung Gede. Then walk through a lush forest before visiting the Trunyan village cemetery, and then boarding a boat to take you across the lake to your start point. You may also opt for a more strenuous sunrise hike, where you’ll walk across black sand and hardened lava before summiting. You can even swim in a hot spring at Toyabungkah.Read More ...
