Caribbean Sightseeing

Turquoise waters, powdery white sand beaches, and jaw-dropping sunsets that stretch on forever in all directions. There’s a reason the Caribbean is the top vacation destination for North Americans (and plenty other people besides). It’s easy to get there, suits all budgets, and offers a unique experience no matter what island you choose or visit during a cruise shore excursion. But don’t spend all your time on the beach – a Caribbean sightseeing experience will give you some of the most unique insights into the islands!

Out of all the Caribbean islands, it’s perhaps Jamaica that has the most distinct culture. Whether you’re bumping shoulders with Rastafarians or mowing down on patties on the beach, you’re likely to leave Jamaica with at least a little better understanding of what makes this country so special. You’ll find some of the Caribbean’s best beaches in Negril, and Rick’s Cafe is THE place to go for the perfect sunset view. You can enjoy cocktails while watching people cliff dive, or hop aboard a catamaran and see it all from the sea. Take a tour of Rose Hall, including the Great House and the Rose Hall Mansion. Learn about the “White Witch of Rose Hall,” and how the residence played an important role in the slave trade. For something different, visit some rural farming villages and take a boat ride on the Black River. You might even see crocodiles!

For exciting adventure, visit the country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Nature lovers, SCUBA divers, and hikers can all appreciate the gorgeous natural beauty of these islands. A must-do while you’re visiting? Hiking to the top of La Soufriere volcano (or driving, depending on your fitness levels). For more luxurious offerings, you can visit tropical gardens, go bird watching, or watch a cricket match. If you’re a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, you can happily take in different viewpoints where the film was set.

Caribbean Sightseeing Continued...

In the US Virgin Islands, cruise the coast of St John’s Virgin Islands National Park, as well as Trunk Bay. There’s prime snorkeling opportunity in many of the bays and cays around here, including St. John and St. Thomas. You may get up close and personal with sea turtles and stingrays.

If you feel like getting off the grid, visit Tintamarre Island, Pinel Island, and Creole Rock. This is about as secluded as it gets, and the best way of seeing it all is by hiring a local guide to take you out sightseeing on the water. Have a beach barbecue, complete with rum punch. See Bequila, another remote island with international influences. Luxury hotels, sheltered beaches, and fishing villages all make for a pleasant stay. Spend time in Fort Hamilton, and visit the Maritime Museum. It’s impossible to come home from a Caribbean vacation not feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Have fun, play, and enjoy the sun.
