California Adventure

In a place like California, you can only expect to be awed by the great outdoors. Mountain ranges, national parks, epic coastline, and more are all waiting to welcome you on the west coast! Despite being the most heavily populated state in the United States, California has endless natural charms. If you want some excitement, get ready for a California adventure.

The most obvious destination for big adventure in California is Yellowstone National Park. There’s literally so much to see and do here, you could spend a lifetime and barely scratch the surface. Hike to Glacier Point to view the high country, and then embark on a 6.8-mile trek to the summit of stunning Sentinel Dome, then to the Fissures and Taft Point. There’s of course the famous Yosemite Valley – one of the most iconic images you’ll see on any postcard in the park. Hike up Mist Trail and then onto Panorama Trail, and you’ll get some of the best views of your life. For something a little different, watch the sunrise over the Sunrise Lakes.

Thanks to the state’s coastline and abundance of lakes and rivers, watersports also make for a great California adventure. In Inverness, you can climb aboard a kayak and paddle along the Point Reyes shoreline, taking in the wildlife and scenery. Stop for a picnic lunch at a perfect beach in Tomales Bay, and have your guide tell you about the surrounding geology and animal life. Even if you’re in the city, you’ll have time to enjoy some paddling. In Santa Barbara (often referred to as the American Riviera), you can kayak around the Harbor while keeping an eye out for dolphins. They’re notorious in this area! For something with a little more thrill, taking a jet ski out in San Diego bay for a few hours ought to do the trick.

California Adventure Continued...

Prefer to see California on two wheels? You can bike from Carmel to Santa Barbara, taking in the sights along the way. Ride the coast past beautiful Garapata Beach, and hang out in Big Sur among the giant Red Woods. Then head onwards to Ragged Point for the most classic Big Sur coastline. As you pedal through San Simeon, keep an eye out for the popular elephant seals that claim the beaches. In the San Luis area, the whole family is invited out to see the sights by bike. With its combination of bike paths and scenic roads with coastal views (not to mention a few wineries along the way), you’ll be entertained for hours. Hang out in the seaside town of Avila Beach, and then watch local fishermen haul in their catch at Harford Pier.

If you’re an animal lover, there are plenty of horseback riding adventures available in California – even in Hollywood. But if you want a more daring encounter with nature, we suggest diving with blue sharks and makos on the reefs of the Channel Islands. How’s that for a thrill?
